Critical Incident Stress Management Team

The Southeast Ohio CISM Team is a volunteer-based organization providing peer support to public safety agencies including fire departments, EMS, law enforcement; educational institutions, industry, and others who have experienced some form of critical incident. All team members volunteer their time to provide initial response and supportive intervention to people who have been exposed to a critical event and who find themselves dealing with the aftermath of such exposure.

Confidential services provided at no charge:

  • Individual Peer Support

  • Crisis Management Briefing

  • Defusing

  • Debriefing

  • Follow-Up

Community Crisis Response Team (CCRT)

The Community Crisis Response Team (CCRT) exists to strengthen how communities respond to large-scale or emotionally impactful crises. The team provides rapid, coordinated mental health support during and after critical incidents to help individuals and communities stabilize and recover.

The CCRT is designed to support—not replace—existing local response efforts by adding trained professionals, specialized expertise, and coordinated resources when they are most needed

During a crisis, the CCRT provides: 

  • Immediate crisis support through rapid deployment of trained mental health professionals

  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation to reduce harm and stabilize affected individuals

  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation to reduce harm and stabilize affected individuals

  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation to reduce harm and stabilize affected individuals

  • Resource coordination by connecting individuals and communities to local and regional services

 

These services are intended to enhance community resilience and ensure people are not navigating crisis alone

When the CCRT Can Be Activated: 

  • Natural disasters or severe weather events

  • Community violence or mass casualty incidents

  • Sudden or unexpected deaths impacting the community

  • Any event causing widespread emotional distress

 

If a situation feels overwhelming or beyond routine response capacity, the CCRT can help

How to Activate the CCRT:

Be prepared to share:

  • Location of the incident

  • Nature of the crisis

  • On-scene contact person

  • Immediate needs

 

Once contacted, the CCRT will coordinate with local partners to provide tailored support based on the situation

The CCRT is funded through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Grant, administered by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS), and supported by the Muskingum Area Mental Health and Recovery Services Board
